What to Wear to the Rodeo

If the rodeo is coming to town, keep in mind that it ain’t no dog and pony show. What you might throw on for a movie or night out on the town might get you through the door, but you could feel mighty out of place wearing your khakis (especially if they’re shorts!) amidst a sea of cowboy hats and jeans. You don’t have to dress like you’re ready to mount up and give it a go, however. Nobody’s expecting you to be clanking around with spurs, trying to sit uncomfortably in chaps while struggling to eat your corn dog with your riding gloves on.
Going to the rodeo is first and foremost meant to be a good time. Make sure whatever you wear is comfortable, and you’ll have a better time. A nice, worn pair of jeans is a good place to start. A comfortable button up shirt is what you should be looking for. Plaid or stripes are the staples here, folks. As for the ladies, there are more style choices, provided they work with the ensemble. While most of the time long sleeves are worn, short sleeved versions are acceptable in uncomfortably hot circumstances.
If you’ve never been to a rodeo and always wanted to unleash your inner cowboy or cowgirl, then you’ve come to the right place. There’s never been a more appropriate time for you to spend a few hours wearing a cowboy hat! When shopping, take the time to try on several types. With the styles and sizes available, you’ll be sure to find the right hat. Remember, comfort is number one. There’s no sense in wearing a hat that looks great if the person under the brim isn’t having a good time!
When it comes to footwear, it’s true that sneaker wearers are still welcome at the rodeo, but why miss the opportunity to step out in cowboy boots? Don’t have a pair? That’s easy to fix. Cowboy boots aren’t just for cowboys anymore. You’ll find that they can be worn in many situations. They serve as great work boots, dress boots, or casual around-town boots. Be sure and pick up a comfortable pair and you may just find yourself wearing them more than you planned.
Mention cowboys to most people and soon the conversation turns to the big ol’ belt buckles. Big belts and their buckles are a chance for you to personalize your outfit. In case you haven’t noticed, cowboys don’t wear t-shirts with catchy slogans. When a cowboy wants to express himself, he gets a nice big belt buckle. Whether it’s your favorite truck, ranch, brand name or slogan, you’ll find it adorned on a belt buckle. Belt buckles can be a lot of fun, so feel free to go hog wild!
No matter what you decide to put on for the rodeo, chances are there’s one thing you’ll be wearing in common with everyone else: a big ol’ smile.
