About Us

Wards Apparel, Indiana's largest jean and fashion store, was founded by Jack and Carolyn Ward in Mooresville, Indiana in March 1972. Jack's dream was to bring good quality clothing, for both work and play, at an affordable price to the community. Today we are still family run and operated, in fact, some of our employees are 4th generation. We carry a wide selection of clothing from top brands like Levi's, Carhartt and Wrangler. We also stock a full range of accessories including jewelry, boots, cowboy hats and much more. When you visit us be sure to check out our Tyler Candle Collection, made right here in the USA in Tyler, Texas. We are located 15 miles from downtown Indianapolis, next to Gray Brothers Cafeteria in Mooresville.

On March 23, 1972 Jack & Carolyn Ward started Ward’s Apparel with $2300 of clothing merchandise. Their first store was located at 10 W Main Street in downtown Mooresville, Indiana.

In 1974, the Wards moved to a larger location at 11 E. Main Street. While living in an apartment above the store, the Wards' hard work and determination allowed Ward’s Apparel to grow. Then in 1976 Ward’s Apparel picked up Levi Strauss and Company as a supplier. Business Boomed!

With business booming, in 1978 the Wards built a new building on the south end of town on Moore Street next to Gray Brothers Cafeteria. This made Ward’s Apparel and Jack’s Men’s Shop a destination stop, pulling in customers from all over Indiana and surrounding states. Business continued to grow and Wards became known as “Indiana’s Largest Levi's Store”.

In 1986, the need for a larger building was realized, so the Wards built a new building on Moore Street and continued to grow.

As we entered into the 1990’s, Wards diversified into other brands of clothing such as Carhartt, Redwing, Lee, Wrangler, Alfred Dunner, and much more, while still maintaining its image as the best place for Levi’s products, with sizes and styles to fit the entire family.

A devastating fire occurred in April of 2008, and Ward’s Apparel lost all of its inventory and part of its building. Thanks to a lot of dedicated workers and employees, Wards was partially operating in 3 months and fully up and running in 6 months.

March 2012 will mark the 40th Anniversary of Ward’s Apparel. Jack and Carolyn Ward feel that God has blessed and sustained their business throughout the years. They count it an honor to have served the community for so many years. They especially cherish the relationships they have built throughout the years with their many customers and employees.

The Ward family looks forward to doing business in Mooresville for many years to come.
