How to DIY Distress Your Jeans

How to DIY Distress Your Jeans

Distressed jeans are very on trend right now, but they can be very expensive! If you’re wondering how you can achieve this look, don’t worry – you can do this at home! Bring life to an old pair of jeans that you don’t wear anymore and you’ll look totally on trend this season. Just grab one of your old favorite pairs of jeans and you’ll be ready to go in no time.

1. Get Your Supplies Together

In order to achieve this frayed look at home, you’ll need:

  • An old pair of jeans
  • A ruler
  • Scissors
  • Tailor’s chalk (or something similar)

2. Make Your Mark

Put your jeans on and slip on a pair of shoes, this will help to make sure you measure at a good spot. When you’ve found the spot you’d like the new hem to be, make a mark with the tailor’s chalk.

3. Put The Ruler to Work

Take your jeans off and mark a straight line with the ruler to extend your mark all the way across the pant leg.

4. Cut the Bottoms

Take your scissors and carefully cut where the line is.

5. Create some Fringe

Take your fingers and pull at the hem to create a fraying effect. Tip: you may want to wash your jeans to create a more natural frayed effect with your new hem.

6. Rock Your New Look

Congratulations, you now have frayed jeans! You can wear them wherever you’d like and feel free to dress them up or down!
